Dine Responsibly in Jackson Hole Feb 14 – March 14, 2012

Support Vertical Harvest of Jackson Hole By Eating Well

Some of Jackson’s top local restaurants will be teaming up to help launch a fundraising campaign for Vertical Harvest of Jackson Hole (www.verticalharvest.org), a socially innovative and responsible business that will provide year round inclusive employment for our citizens with disabilities, while reinventing sustainable agriculture in a cold climate.

From Feb 14, until March 14, 2012, you can “Dine Responsibly” at one of the participating venues. Participating restaurants will collect voluntary donation amounts of your choice at the end of your meal.

“The goals of Dine Responsibly are to raise funds for construction costs over and above the $1.5m grant we will be applying for from the Wyoming Business Council,” stated Penny McBride, Managing Partner. “Restaurant staff will be briefed on the project and educate diners directly on how it will benefit the community.” She added.

“We are extremely proud and excited to have all our restaurants participate in Dine Responsibly. This project is the essence of Jackson Hole, taking one idea and incorporating so many social, environmental and sustainable goals, it will be something everybody can be proud of,” stated Gavin Fine, Managing Director, Fine Dining Group.

Funds collected via Dine Responsibly will be 100% allocated to the construction fund account, during the next few months Vertical Harvest will also host a Pledge Membership Drive, to secure 6 months of Operating Costs, a requirement of the Wyoming Business Council Application.

Vertical Harvest will be a three story vertical greenhouse located in the heart of Jackson, Wyoming. Its mission includes the establishment of meaningful employment opportunities for our citizens with disabilities, as well as growth of premium grade vegetables and fruit all year round, even in a cold climate. This economically self-sufficient business will serve our community for years to come, and will be a replicable model for others to follow in the future.

Vertical Harvest has developed into an L3C a new type of limited liability Company that is set up primarily to further a charitable or social purpose. While Family Foundations can still donate with positive tax implications, private donors will not be able to receive a tax write off. Donors to Vertical Harvest will be investing in a company that grows fresh produce year round while at the same time providing meaningful employment opportunities for those who need it most. I support the cause and attended the event last night, March 15, and donated. My only request is for someone to tell the architect who spoke, that the correct grammar when she referred to someone who “talked to Penny and I” should have been someone who ” talked to Penny and me.”
